What did we get ourselves into?

I enjoyed a wonderful Sunday morning! The message was so convicting and powerful about God coming to "turn the world upside down".  Acts 17:6

We enjoyed fellowship and dinner with a group of church friends then headed for the bus...We had a 2 hr. drive to Cangahaua. The tia met us and we headed into farm territory  She told us we would be staying at her sisters because they are remodeling so we arrive at their house, but they told us we can't come in yet....so we are standing outside visiting, thinking...what did we get ourselves into?? We realize that they are cleaning the house, the whole family! So finally they let us in and show us around, how to light the stove, and showing us the food, so we start to realize that they are leaving and we will be on our own....

Typical Ecuador.....

Ok, so apparently they don't live here, they are just here during the day while they are working. The whole time they were apologizing, trying to figure out a way to make our accommodation better, find a different place to stay, get us a mattress....yes, all we have is a wood bed with a woven mat over it. But we assured them everything was perfect! We are so honored to be here! I think we are probably one of the few Americans to enter their village.

The little house....

It had one bedroom and one storage room...

the mattress...

The kitchen, dining room, entry way....

Bathroom...

Kitchen again......

Walk way to the guinea pigs and corn field....

So then the tia took us for a little tour around the village, which is all little farming plots. There is about 700 people that live here, they stick together, work together and look after each other. I loved seeing all the scattered livestock especially the pigs! :) About 15 yrs ago it was all one ranch that was for growing wheat but then they sold it is small sections for farming, these people mostly just raise enough food for themselves.

They are hard workers!

So we headed back to the house and the tia got us some farm fresh milk! yah I love that stuff! Then said goodnight and headed for home. So then we walked across the "road" to the tiniest store you have ever seen! It was part of their house, but we were able to get a few more eggs and bread, but they didn't have any water so we got some sprite to drink. So we came back and started supper... We have a bag of potatoes, a bag of rice, salt, oil, and an avocado  So we made rice, potatoes, and a fried egg for supper...very Ecuadorian if I do say so myself! Plain rice and fried eggs come with almost every meal! But we are pretty excited about the whole thing!

So then to pass the evening we played a few games (on paper), and had a Spanish lesson! Then off to bed because we are harvesting potatoes tomorrow!
