Day 2
This morning we headed to a nieces house to start the sewing project.....so I used the skirt and a marker I had found for a pattern and we cut it out with the niece watching our every move. We had a pair of very dull scissors! But Natasha was a great sport helping and asking questions when necessary. So then I sat down to figure out the sewing machine, which was a bit different than any I had used before! But with a little help from the niece I had it up and running. Then a neighbor lady came by to help watch.....so we start sewing. I was so nervous! I don't think I have ever wanted something I was sewing to turn out more than this one! We needed an iron but the one we were using wasn't working to good so the neighbor lady ran out to get another one......and we sewed on....The machine was having some problems, skipping stitches, breaking thread, so I made the best of it but it was a bit frustrating Natasha was a great cheerleader and helped divert some of the attention off of me, it was such a help! Then I broke the needle, so the niece went out to find one but came back without one so the neighbor goes out and borrowed one from someone. So I finished it up besides for the button hole on the waistband, but I didn't have anything to cut the hole with, so I had to leave it without. But other than that it turned out almost better than I could have hoped, everything lined up perfectly which is quite a miracle considering the pattern!
A beautiful walk....
The snow capped mountain....
Making the cut....
Natasha said, I look like a seamstress.
My faithful admirers.....
The borrow iron...
finishing the hem....
Almost done....
So then we went to the cornfield to get some lunch, I broke the stalks off and launched them out to Natasha who shucked them, we are quite a team! :) After our lunch, we went for a walk through the village, enjoying the animals. We hopped a fence and visited the cemetery and just enjoyed some time in the mountains! We seen a snow capped mountain that is just beautiful! When we were heading back we stopped to visit Mr. Donkey and decided a trip to Ecuador just wouldn't be complete without being on a donkeys back! Of course some people drove by just as we were doing it, so they had something to tell the village. Almost everyone me met today asked us about being lost last night! They told everyone! So we went to the little one cow dairy and bought some more milk and of course she had to mention that she heard how strong I was....
Chancho!!
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
The empty ravine....
Facing it off with the donkey...
He turned his head, I think I won!
Come here, I'm gonna ride you!
haha her feet are actually off the ground...
We walked through the area that we had walked in trying to find our way home last night, and we were amazed we were alive to tell about it! We found holds, mounds and rocks that we apparently had avoided that we didn't even know were there! Its amazing when you actually see how God protected and watched over you, often times we don't find out. But it truly was amazing we didn't walk or fall into something!
our journey in the dark....
This pit was taller than me....
Relaxing in the sun....
our little visitor...
This evening her niece came and took us to Alicia's house way up in the hills! Then Alicia took us to see the cows which were up and over and under.....but it was a beautiful walk! We found ourselves between two mountains. There was a whole village of people who lived there! It was simple amazing, so we re-staked the cows then had supper with her and a wonderful visit! Mostly because I could understand most of what was being said, at least the main parts of it! Someone said, I am very quiet and Alicia said, "because she listens very hard to Spanish, but in English she talks like a parrot." uhoh...
So tonight her niece walked us half way home then a neighbor we met on the way walked us the rest of the way.... We know the way now!
