Day 2 in the Rain Forest, they get about 26 feet of rain here a year.
We set off for the orphanage this morning, and enjoyed the view and noises along the way.....
This is the bridge, and yes, they drive over this! I was so worried the first time! We didn't think the taxi would fit, but they squeak though....
Ya, I'm pretty sure that leaking pipe is not a good thing!
Casa de Fe
This morning we got in on some physical therapy, it was so interesting! It was such a joy to spend some one on one time with some of the little children! We were able to learn a lot about this ministry! So went spent a lot of time visiting and helping the volunteer Occupational Therapist.
This little boy is completely deaf, but is currently in the process of being adopted by a sign language interpreter! Which is so amazing! He was such a sweet little boy!
Natasha swinging the little princess!
haha had to laugh at the "steering wheel" lights, they were quite unique!
After therapy, we got the job of preparing some new books for their school library.
They have their own school on the premises, they have 5 Ecuadorian teachers and 3 volunteer missionary teachers.
We ran into town quick for anther Ecuadorian lunch, $2.50! It was delicious!
Well I was there I had a quick history lesson, Shell is named for the oil company and is actually the place where Nate Saint and the other missionary's lived. His house is right here in this little town, and half of it is a museum! We were not able to visit it, but it was so amazing! This is a replica of their plane. Its so amazing to think that I am actually here in the jungle and there are tribes not very far away!
The little boy that we visited yesterday, passed away last night, and it is custom for Ecuadorians to hold the funeral the next day, so we experienced not only our first Ecuadorian funeral, but also the first child's funeral I have ever been too. It was very heartbreaking to see the tiny casket. The only ones standing around to say goodbye to this sweet little baby, was tias, orphans, and missionary's. Life is so short, tomorrow is promised to no one, once again I was pressed to consider life, and what it means to me.
We enjoyed our last evening with the church group and missionary's that live here, it was such a wonderful experience!! It's amazing how all these experiences shape the word "Ecuador" in my heart. It received a few more scars, joys and memories that I will never forget on this short little journey into the jungle....
Here my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. Psalms 143:1
Here is the website for Casa de Fe.
I love reading your blog and seeing what you and Natasha are up to, so much of Ecuador we did not experience but seeing it through your eyes is almost like we are there. I always wondered about Casa de Fe and now I get to see it! And these posts are timely as I just checked out Nate Saint's "End of the Spear"
