For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation, to everyone that believeth to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16
I love this verse! The gospel truly is the power of God unto salvation, and I'm so thankful that God didn't send it only to the Jews. He sent it to all, everyone that will believe on Him!
Today was a fun day! The whole orphanage headed to Latacunga for the day! Well not the babies...they are still tooooo sick, but everyone else did! The office workers, most of the tias, the older children, the guard, and even some of us volunteers! So this morning I headed to the toddler house and combed and tamed hair, then at 7:30 sharp we all loaded unto the bus...which was a process! But with excitement in the air we headed for a day at Latacunga!
A lot of the tias here have never seen the facility in Latacunga, and have never met some of the tias working there. So it was a special day for everyone to spend time together, and for all the children to get together! When the bus pulled through the gate, everyone was outside waiting for us.....wheelchairs lined up, children running around....it was so much fun!! :) It was like a big church picnic....everyone forgot they were working and these are orphans...
This little guy was my tag along.... he wouldn't even go by the tia.... but I didn't mind at all! :)
Everyone was so glad to see each other, many of these children have been here most of their lives, and when the facilities were together some of the tias from Quito took care of the children that are now in Latacunga, so it was a happy reunion for all of them!
Everyone lined up....
and everyone pitched in! I love how the tias just serve and serve without making these children feel like they are a problem or bother! They love these children, and include them in everything. Which is exactly how it should be!
These are two new children that came on Saturday, just in time to join in the festivities!
So then we all lined up on the grass, had our own little pep rally, then spread out into teams for some relay fun! Here they are doing wheel chair relays....
That's right they include everyone! These tias are definitely expert wheelchair racers...they lift the front wheel off the ground and go for the gold....the children love it! They get so excited!!
Then they made a tunnel and had a relay through the legs...
You go girl! Well our team won, but everyone got a prize of "Ecuadorian" cheese puffs and something like Captain crunch except it came in a bag like chips and wasn't meant to be eaten for breakfast in a bowl of milk. O well, after all this is Ecuador.....
So after all the races and fun was done we headed to the back lawn for SOCCER!!!
Latacunga vs. Quito!!
Everyone filled the stands! This was a game to remember!
Soccer is their game!
With the Physical Therapist as referee the game was off to a start...
I was able to see my German friend! It was so wonderful! I was very thankful to be able to see her before I leave. So was my little friend!
But the Quito guard didn't like one of the players so he asked me to take their place....are you kidding? I played soccer maybe 2 times in life...but I said, I would give it a try! I gave them all some entertainment anyway! They are serious about their soccer but everyone was playing for fun. The children on the sideline were cheering and hollering...it was definitely the funnest soccer game I have ever had part of! I could probably learn to like the this sport...
Then we headed inside to eat lunch..... we had a delicious lunch of fried chicken, french fry's and salad....the ranch was delicious! But the ketchup leaves something to be desired...Ecuadorian ketchup is very thin and transparent....I don't know what is is made from, but they need to get some Heinz!
The children all loved their little "sack" lunch...
So did the adults....
So after....the children all played for a little more...had picture time....got a little dish of candy....
She is so sweet! How hard to adjust to life at an orphanage though...she is so young...please keep her and the two other little boys in prayer....that God will work out their situation, but most of all that these children will find wholeness and comfort in Him.
So then we all loaded up for the two hour drive home.. All the children fell asleep...ok I did too! It was a long fun day and I got way to much sun....but o well, when I got home I won't be getting to much sun for awhile....
I said goodbye to Jen this evening...she is headed to the States for 1 1/2 months to do some fundraising and things for the orphanage.
What a fun sweet precious day! Praise the Lord He sent Salvation to me.
