Piano Recital

Thursday evening Maria and I went to Heredia to go to a free orchestra concert. I forgot to update my google maps on my phone before we left so we would be able to find where we needed to go once we got there and had no WiFi. So we arrived and just asked for directions from a few people, and we found where we thought it was, and when we told the security officer we were there for a concert, he said, come through. So we realized that we were early and this is tico time, so there were people setting up and we just entertained ourselves for the next 20 minuets. We started thinking that things didn't seem quite right... and realized that we were at a piano and violin recital for little children. Somehow we ended up in the wrong building...that happened to also be having a concert!

We thoroughly enjoyed the piano recital and it also proved to be an amazing cultural immersion showing the importance of family in this culture. After all of the children performed, they presented each one of the children again and their parents came up to the front with them, take a picture, hug and kiss them, and give them flowers or a gift while everyone cheered. It was really neat to see the parents being honored, and them encouraging their students because we all know how nerve racking recitals are, and we never play quite as well there as we did when we practiced at home before we left.
