Welcome to Quito.....

Bienvenidos a Quito....

I woke up this morning to the sound of a plane taking off, and I thought, I am really in Ecuador! It is so beautiful outside and there is all kinds of birds chirping (or insects or something), then the sound of children outside playing, Tias speaking Spanish, but in a strange way it was all such a comfort! This is where God put me and there is nothing else more wonderful on earth!

I will praise Thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto Thee among the nations. For Thy mercy is great about the heavens; and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.
Psalm 108:3-4

The volunteer coordinator, Jennifer, came and gave me all sorts of information, then we started the "Grand Tour", we started in the baby house, we made it to the toddler room and that's where it stopped. She got called away, so here I was trapped in the toddler room with 4 of the most precious 1 yr olds! Could there by anything better?? I think not! :)

Then a group of volunteers came so we took 6 little toddlers on a walk! Next time I will bring my camera......I'm gonna have to get use to that! Its so warm and sunny, but not to hot or humid! Just perfect! So we went back with our sleeping companions and helped feed them lunch.

Then it was lunch time for me and everybody needs a siesta rights?? :)

I'm not so great with this whole Spanish thing, but I think my hours of studying are going to do me good! I am catching on just a little! The tias are so wonderful and patient, especially to Spanish illiterates like me! But with my couple spanish words, and there couple english words, I managed to do what they wanted me too!

This afternoon I had my first experience shopping in Quito, it was just a tiny little "grocery store" down a block, it didn't have much, but it was fun! They had one container of yogurt, boy was I glad, it wasn't Greek or anything but it was something! I think I will adjust to milk in a carton better than I will to no milk at all, so here goes........

Ok, tomorrow hopefully I will take more pictures than of just the milk carton....but nestle really? They make chocolate, not milk!

So the rest of my afternoon was spent with the toddlers again. I think they won me over!

I have two wonderful room mates who have been such a blessing and help, and answered all my questions, so this evening I unpacked a few more things, and settled in a little more. I think I will stay. haha

Well my first day in Quito.......it was amazing! I think I love it here!
These children are so precious! I am so thankful that God brought me here and I am so looking forward to the rest of my time here!

Well after some Hershey Twizzlers (maybe its made by Kemps!), I think I am almost ready to head to bed!
